Difference Between Astral Travel & Astral Projection

Posted over 12 years ago , by Antony

I though of writing something that many of us don't know the Difference between Astral Travel vs Astral Projection.
I thought to clear this with a little article, so that It may help everyone here.

What is Astral travel ?

Many forms of visualisation are associated with Astral Travelling, which is a process of projecting the "consciousness" into visual scenes - i.e. in meditation or temple work - with the effect of "feeling" we are actually "there".

What is Astral Projection ?

Astral Projection is the process of projecting our "Astral counterpart" with the effect of "knowing" we are actually "there".

To be more specific, There is a great difference between the two, Astral Travelling does not remove us from the physical body, but Astral Projection does.

As I said earlier in another topic, Only a few people have heard about Astral Projection, Out of Body Experiences, or Remote Viewing, Even though all the beings have their Astral Projections unconsciously every night when they sleep.

Most experiences of Astral Projection are unconscious, the person only becoming aware of them in "dream states", such as memories of flying etc., but there are those who have had a genuine "conscious" experience, even if only very briefly.

On such occasions there is absolutely no doubt in their minds that they were actually there, and many would argue that they were indeed physically present, for the senses generally do not seem to be impaired. It is interesting to note that those who have "consciously" experienced a projection cannot be persuaded that it was just a figment of their imagination or a dream, for it would be like trying to persuade the reader that they are not "actually" reading this now.

Types of Astral Projections

It is quite natural for us to project from our physical bodies whilst in sleep state, and the "rapid eye movement" phase is normally aligned with this phenomena. However, although we all do have Out of Body Experiences, it is extremely difficult to sustain "consciousness" throughout. The process is easier to understand if we look at the 4 different types of projection.

  1. Involuntary with no "consciousness"
Vivid bewildering dreams. More tired on waking than when going to sleep.

  2. Involuntary with "consciousness"
Awareness of "waking up" in a dream, flying, or with snatches of very clear experience etc. Consciousness is often rapidly lost after a few moments.

  3. Voluntary with no "consciousness"
A technique often known as "Remote Viewing", or sending out a "Watcher". This is consciously done, but the person does not remain conscious of the experience at the time. However, it ensures that retrievable information is available after the event.

  4. Voluntary with "consciousness"
The person remains in "conscious" control of the projection, and complete awareness of experiences from beginning to end.

Mine seems to be between 'involuntary with consciousness' and 'voluntary with no consciousness.'  It has been months since this astral projection, but I can still remember the details clearly.  It is like I woke up in the dream and experienced and went back to sleep while the dream was going on outside the glass.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to revive it and bring a new perspective to the discussion.  I wrote an article just the other day about this very topic that I'd like to share.

I saw the above question just now and I wanted to get my answer down. I'll just get right to the point: yes, Phasing and Astral Traveling are the same thing. They're synonyms. Meaning that they're different words we use to describe the same thing.

There are other words that you'll see people use to describe Astral Traveling, such as:

Phasing:
Astral Travel
Astral Projection
Etheric Projection
Out of Body Experience
Lucid Dreaming
Remote Viewing
Projection
WILD
DEILD
MILD (basically any of those -ILD techniques)

Dreaming:

Doing any of those above labels will take you to the same place (the non-physical) where you can do the same things.

"Dreaming" would be the only one from that list that is slightly different from the others. The other labels describe an event where you're Conscious and Aware that you're in the non-physical dreaming denotes that you're not aware that you're in the non-physical. That's the only difference between a dream and the rest of those labels.

In the end, I like to simply call what we experience a "Projection". Mostly because if someone was to ask me "Was what I experienced an astral projection?" and I answer saying that it was probably a lucid dream, then immediately the individual asking the question feels like they failed because they didn't have an "astral projection". They didn't do what they originally set out to do. It has a very negative connotation towards it. Whereby if I just say that, yes, they had a Projection, then it has a more positive influence upon them. They succeeded! And really, they DID succeed at what they wanted which is to become aware while being non-physical.

I never worry about if I'm lucid or astrally aware in the non-physical. I simply ask myself, "was I conscious and aware while having a non-physical experience?", and if the answer is YES, then I'm happy. Even if I didn't, a dream awareness experience is still highly valuable to me.
